BCE Minutes
April 7, 2009

Reports
Secretary’s Minutes -- The minutes from the meeting held on March 3, 2009, were reviewed and approved as written.
Council Representative – Lori attended the Council meeting held on March 12, 2009. Lori indicated that the Council inquired about the attendance in Sunday school and would like to begin counting the Sunday school attendance in combination with the attendance during the services.
Budget Manager – No report was available. Karen stated that she would contact Rosemary to obtain information about the BCE’s budget.
Youth Group – Jenny reported that all of the spots have been filled for the senior youth mission trip to Taylorsville, North Carolina, from July 18, 2009, through July 24, 2009, so only those currently signed-up will be attending. At least 8 children will be attending the Junior youth at Merom. Additional drivers will be needed. Jenny is working on t-shirts for the youth.
The Youth Talent Auction was hugely successful in raising over $2,500 with an additional $300 from the scrapbook group.
Recycling Sunday will be held on April 19, 2009. Additionally, the Junior Youth will be commissioned during the service on April 19, 2009.
Jenny reported that the Lenten study group (held during the Wednesday night Lenten service) was attended by 4-5 children.
On April 2, 2009, the youth (and several parents) cleaned the church inside and out. The work is much appreciated.
Jenny explained that an adult Sunday school curriculum was purchased for $115. Carolyn Hayes will use the 15 booklets for the class.
Early registration for summer camp is due by May 15, 2009.
Jenny indicated that the youth have been asked to help sell something as a fund raiser during the “Relay for Life” in Greenwood on May 16, 2009, and May 17, 2009.
Sub-Committees
Sunday school/Teacher support – The letter discussed at the last BCE meeting was sent to the Sunday school teachers. As a token of appreciation, a thank you will be given to the Sunday school teachers for Easter. The group decided on a card and $5 Dunkin’ Donut gift cards.
Sunday school will occur on Easter Sunday. Linda agreed to teach the Pre-K and Kindergarten class on Easter Sunday.
Nursery – A subcommittee of the BCE and Jenny interviewed candidates for the nursery caregiver. Art reported that Lynn Haripal has been selected. Her references provided positive reviews and she will begin soon (hopefully by Easter).
Jenny offered to be in the nursery during the Maundy Thursday service and Jennifer C. offered to be in the nursery during the Good Friday service.
Old Business
Easter Egg Hunt – The group held a review of the volunteers and the tasks. Rhoda Johnson has been confirmed (including all of her helpers) for the pretzels. Ross has been confirmed for the story time. Robin will be providing 2 jelly bean guess jars. Connor Fak will be the Easter bunny with Lauren Zotz helping. The Brunnemers will be taking the Easter bunny pictures. Susie will be coordinating the making of the frames. Marcia will be setting up the games and crafts on Wednesday, April 8, 2009. The rest of the set-up will occur after the Good Friday service on April 10, 2009. The group determined that the event appeared to be “under control”.
Vacation Bible School – Further discussion about VBS will occur at the May BCE meeting.
New Business
Graduation Sunday – Jenny is planning Graduation Sunday for May 31, 2009. She requested the names of graduates in the April Herald and has received 4 names.
Jenny will be gone with the youth on April 26, 2009. Jenny will also be gone on May 17, 2009. Jennifer C. agreed do to Children’s church for both dates.
Pastor Ross indicated that he would be willing to assist the BCE for curriculum in the fall. He discussed a potential curriculum entitled “The Whole People of God” which is lectionary based and would parallel his sermons. The group will discuss the fall curriculum further at a future meeting.
