The Primer Timers are a group that meets about nine or ten times each year.
Their recent activities include attending dinner theatre and Christmas programs
at University of Indianapolis; a one-day bus trip to a dairy operation in
northern Indiana; wiener roast, chili and bean suppers and game night at the
church. Activities are varied and are selected from suggestions made by members
of the group.
Members/participants:
Participants are primarily senior citizens of the
congregation, both married couples and singles, although all ages are welcome
to participate in their functions. The group originated in 1948 at St. John’s as “Young Married Folks”. Later it became “Married Folks” and several years ago
the name was changed to “Prime Timers” to include and welcome the many single
persons in the congregation. Attendance at the group’s functions averages about
35. Voluntary collections are taken occasionally and the proceeds are
used to support special needs of the church or as charitable contributions.
Prime Timers usually meet on the fourth Friday of each month, but at other
times depending upon special event dates.
