MISSIONS & ASSISTANCE

Emergency Assistance Funds

At the Pastor's discretion, these monies are made available to assist church members and neighbors with financial emergencies on a once per year basis.

Benevolence Funds

These funds are generously provided by our congregants to be distributed to the various mission efforts designated by the Church Council.

Angel Tree

The Angel Tree is a community outreach program held prior to Christmas.  Children and their families from local school districts are provided Christmas gifts through the Angel Tree. Gifts are bought from information that is placed on tags. The wrapped gifts are returned to the church to be delivered in time for Christmas.

Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Members of St. John's have volunteered at a gift shop at both the Indy 500 and the Brickyard 400 for over 20 years. Over 60 church members and friends each year work throughout the month of May to serve the community and church. It is an opportunity to reach out to those attending the races as well as a wonderful chance for fellowship with church members. The 500 shop raised over $18,000 last year for various church projects and missions.  The music organizations, nursery school and youth missions each receive part of the earnings with half of the total going into council directed funds.

Altenheim Gift Shop

Several of our ladies give time to volunteering at the Altenheim Senior Living Community in their gift shop. This facility was originally owned by the UCC. It was sold to Cardon Corp. But, our ladies see the need continues to serve the residents. Snacks, toiletries, décor items, greeting cards and cleaning supplies are available for purchase. The shop is open Mon-Sat for two hours each day and on Thursday evenings. Through this shop, residents have the opportunity to remain more independent. It also provides a willing listener and occasionally a chance to pray with a resident. Additional workers are always welcome. Profits from the shop go directly back to the residents through trips to Indians' games, theater trips and annual Christmas gift cards.

Adult Mission Group

The Adult Mission Group works to provide opportunities for adults of all ages to use their talents, within their capabilities, to serve others in a wide variety of settings inside and outside the walls of the church. Our members, ages 30 to 80, have participated in activities ranging from recognition dinners for first responders to week-long work camps in rural areas inside and outside Indiana.
